QE hospital damned in national report

We don't normally get very surprised by reports that says Greenwich is rubbish. Nor do we get suprised when the Council pretends that we live in a wonderful utopia. The Council's delusional attitude towards the Borough, and the leadership's habit of outright lying in the Council chamber is pretty much par for the course.

We mention this because we're quite interested in how deep the ostriches will stick their head in the sand over the latest Healthcare Commission report which notes that Queen Elizabeth Hospital Trust in Woolwich (as well as Queen Mary's in Sidcup and Lewisham) are amongst the worst hospitals in the country.

Let's just hope that none of us need hospital care in Greenwich - as it is a very, very scary position to be in.

The best bet is to be asked to be referred to a hospital outside of this sinking borough....or if you are lucky enough to have some savings or a health plan - go private.

Clearly the Council have retired to their underground bunker over the last few years and are not accepting any post.
Their email system must have 'bad news' filters enabled so the only way we can get this in front of their noses is to sellotape a copy on the door of the O2 private box.
Failing that, their trough.

I've been in QE a couple of times in the past few years for a few minor things, and I've found it pretty good.

It's very easy to get referred away now, your GP should offer you any hospital you want - the Choose and Book system has its flaws but it does mean we don't have to go to this hospital. The idea is we vote with our feet; but if the hospital goes bust then what, does the borough just not have one anymore? Mind you, a moot point if we're going to have polyclinics instead in a few years. I think there's a 'consultation' on that right now...

I had to go to A&E a few weeks ago... and went to QE. I heard bad things, but didn't know what to do besides go to the nearest hospital. QE is a shambles. Short staffed. Disorganised. Slow. Poor communication with patients (English must be prerequisite!). And a nurse who was allergic to latex simply not wearing any gloves at all!! I insisted on a different nurse, one who could wear the gloves. I think it would be VERY easy to end up sicker than one went in at QE - and have heard this does indeed happen (MRSA, etc) From now on I know that in an emergency, call your GP and ask to be sent to Thomas', or if you can get driven straight to Thomas' A&E. QE staff can do the basics, like wash hands and surfaces and wear gloves, but why they fail to is an absolute mystery.
