Publicity spending increased by over 300% in ten years

If any residents have been wondering where large parts of their Council Tax goes then we suggest you have a look at this table of figures from the pressure group the Taxpayers Alliance. IN the last ten years the Council has gone from spending £743,000 a year on publicity to spending £3,189,000. That's an increase of 329.2% on propaganda spending.

It's not all bad news though. They're going to cut some of the spending next year. The plan is to reduce the spending on Greenwich Card advertising by £15,000. This makes sense when you think about it. A Greenwich Card gets you discount on services. Why advertise something that saves residents money, it would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Making our beloved council the 7th highest spending in Greater London. I wonder how much council tax is going to go up this year?

Well, it adds up really. Greenwich Council are doing such a thoroughly bad job - that they would have to pay for SPIN of the highest order to gloss over those big cracks!

My, ever decreasing, disposable income is going into SPIN and advertising via my council tax.

What the hell are they publicising?
Everything is crap.

You set up a website that does nothing but moan and seize upon the council's every word - and THEN wonder why they spend more money on publicity.

Why not spend it on what people are complaining about rather than publicity?
Or is publicity the easy answer?

I'm not sure you understand what publicity is.

Organisations use publicity to draw attention to their services.

They are probably publicising services that complainers aren't aware of.

The more newspapers and blogs there are, the more of an effort required to get those messages and services out.

Did anyone see that propaganda on the front page of the Greenwich Time this week?

How much did the Council pay those two for that "story"?

OMG
